One of Siem Reap’s premier spas offers tired travellers relaxation and rejuvenation in a very stylish setting.
It is refreshing, not to mention utterly pleasurable, to visit a spa that gets it right. And Siem Reap’s Bodia certainly does. Located opposite the town’s infamous Pub Street, the lush spa is a beautiful oasis of calm, quite rightly described as a ‘Cambodian cocoon’ by the owners.
White, curved walls, abundant use of natural materials, as well as subtle water features give the spa both a luxurious and welcoming atmosphere. Several treatment rooms indoors are available, however the tropical garden roof terrace has a particular draw. With small, air-conditioned huts amidst the greenery, it is especially designed for couples as most huts have two massage beds.
The menu at Bodia includes a range of massages as well as body wraps, scrubs, facials, and nail care treatments. Several package deals (from US$48) are also available. All treatments are conducted using fresh ingredients such as orange juice, yoghurt, and fruit, or natural, chemical free products from the spa’s own product range Bodia spa.
After a day traipsing around the temples, the spa’s classic oil massage (US$28) is a perfect way to soothe aching muscles and apsara-filled minds. Choose between four oils to get exactly what you want; eucalyptus to cool your body, ylang ylang to ease stress and tension, ginger to relieve muscle and joint ache, or rosemary to lift your spirits from exhaustion and fatigue.
Using strong strokes, the therapist kneads your tired muscles from top to toe. The massage oil has a faint smell, which in the dimly lit room transports you to seventh heaven. Attentive to your needs, the therapist asks you to tell him or her of how strong you would like the massage to be, further making sure everything else is in order at regular intervals. Though most of the spa’s clientele are tourists, a 30 percent discount for expats is a draw for those staying in Cambodia on a more permanent basis. And keep an eye out, the spa is set to open in Phnom Penh soon as well.
