Those who have no trouble getting behind a microphone and belting their heart out, and those who like to watch others get behind a microphone and embarrass themselves will be pleased to hear about AsiaLIFE’s great karaoke find.

Le West Club Karaoke offers private rooms and a great selection of western music, making for a hilarious night on the town. Barangs can finally join in on the karaoke fun. Private rooms are large and spacious, perfect for large groups and private parties. They are all named after well-known places like Phnom Penh, Bangkok, and somewhat unexpected Monaco. Each air-con room is equipped with an enormous TV screen or projector, a complex sound system, and even laser lights to liven up the atmosphere. Room rental cost 1,000 riel per minute. While this may seem a bit pricey upon first impression, it actually breaks down to US$15 an hour. Split among a couple or fifteen friends and it is mere pocket riel, won’t break the bank and is definitely worth it. Snacks and drinks are also available at Le West Club. Karaoke girls come around with menus and leave some snacks on your tables, in case you get hungry and forget you will be charged five times the standard price for your craving. Whisky dominates the spirits menu, but be warned, the cheapest bottle is US$30.

Sing Your Heart Out

With truly something for everyone, Le West Club features a variety of thick binders with Khmer, Korean, Chinese, French, and English selections. This also means that you can bring your Khmer and French friends and colleagues with you on the big night. Singers and non-singers alike can belt out Beatles, Britney, or Bonnie (of karaoke favorite “Total Eclipse of the Heart Fame”). Each room comes with two microphones, perfect for heart wrenching duets and massive group serenades. Rooms also leave plenty of space for dancing. Lyrics are broadcast on the televisions or screens, accompanied by music videos clearly from the eighties. The videos portray melodramatic lovers in various cities of the world. It is fun just to see how good you are at guessing each locale. Some videos are also quite risqué.

Something To Consider

Karaoke in Asia is not without it’s risks. Sure enough, the downstairs lobby can often be filled with an unusual amount of young girls in glittering traditional garb. Ignore them and they’ll leave you alone. At least two girls are assigned to each room, but they serve the very functional purpose of working the karaoke machine and plugging in song requests. They also get a big kick out of barang performances. As the place tends to fill up on certain nights, it’s best to call in advance and make a reservation. Don’t take any chances when risking a night of karaoke filled fun. Be your very own pop idol for the night, but you may regret it when a video of your performance appears on You Tube.
