Cambodia has imposed a temporary ban on sending domestic workers to Malaysia following numerous complaints of abuse, which is hailed by rights groups.
In recent months the press dozens of cases of sexual abuse, overwork and exploitation among an estimated 50,000 Cambodian women employed as domestic helpers in the country.
Not a small number of them was underaged. The Malaysian TV feature YOUNG MAIDS FOR SALE (ntv7, 60 mins, English subs) stems from the experience of a 14-year-old girl who has now been able to return to her home and school in Prey Veng Province. SOLD OUT (20 mins) portrays a young Khmer woman, who was sold to a Malaysian brothel.
