Beat poet Antonio Pineda was one of the founders of the Straight Theatre in Haight Ashbury during the San Francisco renaissance in the 1960s. Tonight he reads selected works and introduces the new documentary MAGIC TRIP (2011, 107min, English) about late US cult author Ken Kesey (“One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”), with whom he worked. In 1964, Kesey and “The Merry Pranksters” set off on a LSD-fuelled cross-country road trip. They intended to make a documentary, but the film was never finished. Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney and Alison Ellwood were given unprecedented access to 100 hours of footage. They have shaped an invaluable document of this extraordinary piece of American history.
