The local coffee shop scene got a new addition as Brown Coffee & Bakery opened its doors on Nov. 7. The white-walled, stylish café serves a variety of coffees using 100% Arabica beans imported from Thailand, for prices in the US$1.50-US$2.50 range. Its speciality however is the green tea latte, which is also available as a frappucino or simply on ice. Made from green tea powder, syrup, and milk, the jade-coloured drink is a bit of an acquired taste, but if you like the earthy taste of matcha and have sweet tooth this may be just your thing. Though only a limited selection of pastries were served at the opening, the owners of Brown promise the menu after a week-long soft opening will further include French pastries and a variety of classic cakes such as black forest and tiramisu, all made by the café’s in-house pastry chef. Though the target market is up-and-coming Khmers, foreigners are also likely to find their way to this cool, new, wireless, café. Brown Coffee & Bakery, 17 Street 214, Tel: 023 217 262. Open 7.30am to 8pm.
